I agree that the Malayalam industry brings out some real good movies but I cannot agree to your saying that the Tamil industry is decaying. On the contrary I feel there are more people now who are willing to make good movies and some really talented performers coming up.
Sorry that i havn't seen any malyalam movie yet b'coz of language constraint. So am not able to appreciate malyalam movies for now. Hope i find the DVD with subtitle of the movie you mentioned.
Hey i do have watched Manichitrathallzu but was not so impressive to me except sobana dance performance..May be its b'coz i watched this movie few months back. But,a good movie should be appreciated at all times..even after 100yrs. Its value shouldn't degrade in time.
Anyway...ppl taste and view always differs..Well, i happen to watch few very good movies in last few days..I would name few here..Hope you too like them.

I can say that directors needs to be respected more than heroes but if i happen to ans the truth from my heart i will prefer Vijay than Manirathnam, it is the case with me, since i have been brought up in such a situation where i never mind who is directing the film. I and my frds used to see the actor of the movie and will decide rather than seeing the director.... Some exceptional case will always be there like shankar and mani....
Also i disagree with the point that tamil cinema is decaying since i heard from south indian frds here saying tamil film is next to hindi in india.
