Take a bow

One fine evening.I was simply idling away my time. All of a sudden a friend of mine appears with a free pass to a live concert by one Mr.S.P.Balasubramaniam.It was a promotional concert for BPL mobile.I didnt have great expectations because promotional events are usually all glitz and no soul.
Was I wrong!!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen 'Take a bow'. S.P at nearly 60 was like never before. The show was miles above my expectations.I would say SP sang some songs a bit better than the original ones.I am seriously at a loss of adjectives to describe the standards on display. There were other performances by upcoming artistes like Srilekha Parthasarathy,Mahathi etc.Am sorry they were rank bad and like 'drishti pottu' on the show.I was there between 8 P.M and 10 P.M.The show was not yet over when I left. The masterpeices sung by S.P during my stint where

Vandanam - Vaazhve Maayam
Vaigarayil - Payanangal Mudivadhillai
Shankaraa - Shankaraabharanam
Naa Unna Nennachaen - Movie i dunno
Tere mere beechme - Ek Duje Ke Liye
Pani Vizhum Iravu - Mouna Raagam
Sangeetha Jadimullai - Kaadhal Oviyam
Andhi Mazhai - Raaja Paarvai
Mandram Vandha - Mouna Raagam
Devuda Devuda - Chandramukhi
Ilamai Idho Idho - Sagalakalaavallavan

There are some people who feel S.P spoils songs during his concerts by improvising too much.I thought in this concert the improvisation part was the real value of the concert. The vocals were extremely mature in nature. After rendering each song being the humble self that he is,he showered rich praises on the music directors and other stakeholders involved in that song.
Credit must also go to 'Lakshman Sruthi' for great orchestration. They kept up their name of being one of the best orchestras around.

Lucky you. I havent heard SPB live in years. Pity music directors prefer the so called younger singers to SPB. SPB still has a few solid years left in him.

yeah lucky you. I wish he performs in LA soon. I don't wanna go to those ARR concerts, as they are mostly hindi dominated.

The issue of under using SP has been a serious problem.I mean his voice has matured like old wine and is full of expressions.I think he is at his best right now

Hi,
First time here. I had the privilege of attending an SPB concert in S'pore last year. SPB and Janaki were the main singers....most of the songs were melodies from the 80's. Music was by Raghuraj chakravarthi group. the concert was a sell out.

SPB was part of a Bharadwaj concert in S'pore in Feb this year. since there were lot of singers SPB didn't get too many songs.

Looks like you had a feast. I had one 3 months back in Fremont California. I cried when sang 'Mandram vandha thendralukku'.

His voice, like you said, is improving day by day. How old is he? Close to 60.!

I am a big fan of SPB. A day before the tamil concert there was a telugu concert. I also attended that. And god..when he sang 'Sagara Sangamam' song which got him the National award, I couldn't help crying.!!
