Where are those icons

Over the years my exposure to English music had been restricted to the occasional MJ or Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears(yuck) number on MTV.Of late I got a lot of oppurtunities to diversify into a lot of stuff like Metallica,Pink Flloyd,Nirvana,Led Zepplin ,Mark Knoffler etc etc.And i like SOME of their songs.I loved Pink Flloyd and Knoffler the most. They were just too good.Which brings me to a question.I want you people to help me out with it.
1)I feel that for the past few years now there is no universal English music artist or genre.
The reasons could be:
a)Today's artists are not good enough
b)Today we are all exposed to more choices and therefore there is fragmentation of interests.
c)Everyone's life has become too busy to hear a lot of music.
d)I am ignorant(If so please throw some light on who is today's BEST).

English Music not my cup of tea.

check out Country Music . I like Collin Raye, John Michael Montgomery, Shania Twain.

Have you listened to Sting? He has a song 'Desert Rose'. Check it out in the NET. Wonderful song.

Also listen to a song 'Thankyou' by dido. Great song.!

Music is definitely becoming more fragmented. No more world icons. Some remnants of the old times remain. Otherwise, people prefer listening to smaller stars who produce better music. Everyone else who is launched with big bucks has very little talent to offer. These are the studio stars and not the true artists.
I am doing a lot of jazz, blues and hip hop these days. Not many big stars( hip hop does have big stars but its not universally accepted music) but good fun. Jazz is brilliant in the hands of true masters and I dont listen to anything in jazz past 1960. Older the better :)

"Older the better" is definitely true. Also due to the high exposure and big stakes involved, some genuine artists too become Studio stars and lose quality very soon.

Enrique Iglesias is one of my current favourites. He has been around for sometime.

I prefer English instrumental over others. I would recommend BOND - string quartet. Not one day passed without listening to their music either in a swanky shopping mall or as a background in TV.

U can check out these greats :

U can also check out:
Phil Collins
Stevie Wonder

Oh! I can go on and on..

but for King,Elvis always rocks...
